The Institute of Technical and Environmental Chemistry comprises the three chairs “Functional Materials”, “Technical and Environmental Chemistry” and “Applied Electrochemistry”. Important research areas are materials for electrochemical storage devices (next-generation batteries and supercapacitors), alternative synthesis methods (thin film technology, mechanochemistry) and compounds (ionic liquids, carbons), heterogeneous catalysis as well as cavitation and water technology. The research aims at developing materials and concepts for a more sustainable future as well as understanding their fundamental properties and principles.
